Frequently Asked Questions
What is PMU?
PMU stands for Permananet make up, also known as Semi-Permanent Makeup or Cosmetic tattooing. PMU is an umbrella term for a whole range of different procedures such as microshading, microblading, powder brows, permanent eyeliner and lip blush.
What is Microshading & Microblading and What is the differences?
Get the gorgeous eyebrows you deserve with our microshading procedure.
Sometimes, the secret to beautiful eyebrows is a bit of shaping done by threading, picking or waxing. Other times, the problem is not having hair follicles where you want them. If you are unsatisfied with the result you have been able to get on your own, give us a call at Oh Vixen! Brow & Lash Studio for your free consultation.
Microshading is becoming the most popular advanced modality performed in the esthetic industry. Do you have thin brows, no brows, or brows that are falling out? This may be the procedure for you. It’s no secret brows are now the “hot” feature and women/men want to make them perfect.
The options are endless to create the “perfect” brow: tweezing, waxing, gels, powders, pencils, and more. But the daily routine can become tedious and—you know you’ve seen it—the result can look frighteningly unnatural.
Microshading is an attractive option for those who can’t (or don’t want to) apply makeup every day, have lost their brows as a result of various medical conditions, have thin, sparse brows from years of over tweezing, or have scarring. This procedure also goes by alternative names such as micropigmentation, permanent cosmetics, micro stroking, dermal implantation, and eyebrow embroidery.
MICROSHADING EXPLAINED
Microshading is a semipermanent cosmetic tattoo procedure that fills in sparse eyebrows by placing pigment into the skin. Microshading uses pin-like dots of pigmentation to achieve a powdered eyebrow look. Technician uses a bladed needle to apply pigmentation underneath the skin. These needles are so thin they mimic the look of brows by creating thin scratches on the skin, into which pigment is then deposited.Microshading lasts longer & less painful than microblading due to the pointed dotting technique, verses longer strokes.
Also microshading does not damage the tissue at all verses microblading because technician does not cut the eyebrow skin deeper to create the hair stroke with blades. This is why we do not recommend our clients Microblading!!! We highly recommend Microshading because it looks beautiful, natural & it is safe!
The brows will create the scab & scabs start fall off in 7-10 days after the 1st treatment. You do not plug the scabs!!! Scabs should fall itself. When scabs fall 30-70% of the pigmentation will fall with the scabs. That is why it is so crucial to do Touch up! After touch up pigmentation settle more and you ll see your full results. An aftercare plan may be prescribed to aid in the healing process and prevent the pigment from fading.
The effects last anywhere from 2–3 years + , depending on the client’s skin.
After that time, the pigment begins to fade, eventually leaving the brows as they were before (and in need of another visit to you). The procedure itself is relatively painless since our technicians apply a topical numbing agent. The best part about this procedure is that there is no downtime.

Eyeliner Tattoo
What is Eyeliner tattoo?
Permanent eyeliner is a method of placing pigment along the lash line, under the skin, similar to tattooing. This ink is permanent, but has to be touched up every three to five years. But some cases lasts longer.
Is eyeliner tattoo painful?
Before inking the pigment onto your lash line, numbing cream is applied on your eyelids for at least 20 min Once the cream is removed, you will not be able to feel any sensation. After 1st pass artist will apply numbing cream second time and client does not feel any pain at all. After the procedure artist will give the client Aftercare instructions.
When is the initial touch up? Do you need a touch up after permanent eyeliner?
There are no hard rules about touch-ups, as each person holds the pigment differently but touch up is very important. After 1st procedure in 6-8 weeks later we bring back our customer for initial touch up.
Lip Blushing/Lip Tattoo
Beauty in the age of COVID has been all about the eyes. Everything from eyebrow serums, mascaras, and eyeshadow pallets to brow lamination and lash extensions. But what about the lips? During 2020, sales of eye cosmetics from brands such as Bobbi Brown and Dior saw growth of 40 percent while lip products saw a rise of just 2.2 percent.1 That’s no surprise—mask mandates do not pair well with a beautiful red lip or a shiny pink gloss. Now that lock downs have ended, mask mandates are loosening, and people are getting back to the business of being in the world, we’ll see the demand for lip color rise again, but it may be for alternative lip treatments. Enter lip blushing.
What It Is
Lip blushing is a semipermanent cosmetic tattoo that deposits pigment into the dermal layer of the lips. It is sometimes referred to as the aquarelle lips technique, which is intended to give a shiny, lip gloss appearance. Aquarelle, a style of painting with watercolors, is where this technique gets its name.2 The pigments chosen are often subtle nudes and pinks that give a soft blush to the lips and appear almost transparent. Unlike a traditional permanent makeup lip, there are no harsh lines, saturated colors, or “lipstick” look. Using a single needle and a permanent makeup device, the technician applies layers of pigment into the lips until the desired outcome is achieved.3 Thin layers result in a subtle appearance. The more layers of pigment, the denser the result.
What To Expect
After the initial treatment, the lips will heal and be about 30 percent lighter on the lips post procedure than the pigment seen in the bottle.4 A required follow-up occurs at 6–8 weeks to fill in pigment that may have dissipated or peeled away in the initial healing process and to correct any unevenness. The pigment will fade over time, but it can last up to four years depending on your client’s lifestyle. Factors such as sun exposure, smoking, and exfoliation can contribute to the pigment fading more quickly.
Post-care is basic and involves avoiding all the things that dry the lips and cause peeling. As with all tattoos, the lips should be kept moisturized. Clients should avoid lip products with petroleum jelly, which can cause pigment to fade.5 It is also advisable to use a lip product formulated with a broad-spectrum SPF, at least while lips are healing. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, tanning beds and sun lamps are known to fade tattoos and may even react with some pigments.6 Your client should avoid tanning for the sake of their lips (and the health of their skin). And, it goes without saying, exfoliating lip scrubs will diminish the life of the lip blush.

I’ve never been waxed before. How is it done?
Waxing is the most common method of hair removal in spas today. Hair on any part of the body or face can be waxed. Warm wax is applied to the area and then removed, bringing the hair with it. There are two types of wax: hard and soft. Hard wax, which is easier on delicate skin, is often used on the face, underarms, and bikini area. Soft wax is used on the legs, arms, back, and chest.
Waxing reduces hair growth when performed at regular 30-day intervals. Because waxing pulls the hair out by the root, it grows back softer, finer, and thinner. The more you wax, the less hair grows back.
Waxing should not be performed if you have particularly sensitive skin, because it pulls off a couple of layers of skin cells along with the hair. Waxing can cause tenderness and swelling. In addition, some medications will cause the skin to react badly to waxing. Don’t wax if you’re taking Retin-A, Accutane, or any type of acne prescription.
Preparing for treatment
Let the hair grow out to about a half-inch above the skin. If hairs are too short, the wax won’t adhere strongly enough to pull them out. Refrain from taking a shower or bath before the treatment. Soaking the hair will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective. Do not apply lotion to the skin before your waxing session.
What to expect
An antiseptic lotion may be applied to cleanse the area first. Some estheticians apply a light dusting of baby powder to be sure the skin is dry before applying the wax.
- If soft wax is being used, the warm wax will be spread on the hairs in a thin layer. A cloth strip (muslin or pellon) is then applied to the wax, and rubbed in the direction of hair growth. The strip is then pulled quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth while the skin is held taut with the other hand.
- If hard wax is being used, a thicker amount of warm wax is applied and allowed to dry. No cloth strip is applied. The wax is flicked to allow the esthetician to grip it, and it is then pulled off quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth. Hard wax doesn’t adhere to the skin as much as soft wax, and is therefore used on more delicate areas such as the bikini area, underarms and face.
How much does it hurt?
Most people tolerate it well, and get used to the sensation after a few treatments. The level of discomfort you will feel depends on your level of pain tolerance in general, and on which area is being waxed. If you still find waxing very uncomfortable after several treatments, many estheticians offer numbing crèmes that can be applied 45 minutes prior to the service. Clients are also recommended to take two ibuprofen tablets prior to their appointment, to reduce discomfort and decrease inflammation in the post-waxed area. For women, it is generally best not to schedule waxing services just prior to or during your period, as you are more sensitive to pain at this time and will experience more discomfort.
Home care after waxing
It’s important to care for the waxed area properly after treatment to prevent ingrown hairs, breakouts, or other reactions. Exfoliation, using a pumice stone or exfoliating gloves with a bath gel, will help keep the skin clear. Avoid using a bar soap because it leaves a film on the body that could cause ingrown hairs. For the face, back, and chest, use a more gentle exfoliant and an anti-breakout lotion (ask your waxer about recommended products). Directly after waxing, avoid direct sunlight and tanning booths, especially while the skin is still red from treatment. For 24 hours after waxing, avoid exercise, hot tubs, and products with harsh chemicals, perfumes, or dyes. Apply a gentle moisturizer 24 hours after treatment.
